As a Love Where You Live Ambassador authority, Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council are committed to inspiring everyone in their community to think about their street, neighbourhood and town, and take action to reduce litter where they live, work and play.

The local authority, local businesses, individuals and community groups working together is key to combating the problem of litter and wider environmental issues.

In Tonbridge and Malling, the Larkfield neighbourhood have been setting a great example to the rest of the community by working together with local businesses and residents to clean up the area.

A massive clean up operation between Larkfield Neighbourhood Watch, local councillors and staff from Tesco Extra at Larkfield around the Tesco Extra site and surrounding area resulted in a clear up of 30 sacks of rubbish.

Among the items they found were a television set, a vacuum cleaner, bicycle wheels, parts of a car, a large broken garden ornament, planks of wood and bits of metal.

Councillor Howard Rogers, Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Environmental Services, said: "Larkfield is doing extremely well in the Love Where You Live stakes and has already planned a third event for Saturday 24 March 2012 involving a number of community groups. Well done to all concerned."

Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council is one of a number of Love Where You Live Ambassadors Authorities.  Other ambassadors are: Doncaster Council, Knowsley Council, Chesterfield Borough Council, Birmingham City Council, Recycle for Hampshire, Wigan Council and Liverpool BID Company. Fiona Ashurst from Keep Britain Tidy said: “It is through the help and commitment of all our Ambassador Authorities that Love Where You Live will make a real difference to the places where people live, work and play.”
