On Wednesday Keep Britain Tidy took litter picking to a new level with an online litter pick.
The “Twitpick” will involved asking the charities 2,600 followers to each pick up one piece of litter and then tweet what they have collected.
Despite the rainy November weather, tweeters hit the streets and managed to collect 56 items of litter including more the more unusual finds of a dog lead and some chicken!
The “Twitpick” got over 271 mentions across twitter and attracted the attention of organizations such as Tesco who tweeted via their ‘Tesco Greener’ account.
The event was also supported by Keep Scotland Beautiful who featured a news story on their website and encouraged Scottish tweeters to get involved.
Nicola Peate, digital media co-ordinator said: “News of the ‘Twitpick’ spread far and wide and people seemed really taken with the idea that they could do more to Keep Britain Tidy than just click follow.
“Despite the rainy weather many of our followers got out and about to collect their piece of litter and some even sent us a picture!
“The next ‘Twitpick’ is planned for Spring when we hope it will be even bigger and better!”
Thank you to all who got involved!
