The Big Tidy Up Wigan

05 June 2009

If you were driving around Wigan this morning you may have noticed some very bright coloured volunteers armed with green bin bags and litter picks.

The staff at Keep Britain Tidy, along with volunteers from Greggs in Wigan and Wigan Council took part The Big Tidy Up.

Fifty seven volunteers managed to collect a whopping 85 bags of rubbish from around the Miry Lane area including the Southport railway bridge and the Pemberton railway bridge.

Along with the usual cigarette butts, cans and crisp packets some more unusual items of rubbish were found including a dumped For Sale sign and a Mickey Mouse hat! The prize for the most unusual find was rewarded with a £20 donation to our Charity of the Year, WaterAid.

A "dress down" day and a buffet lunch also added to the WaterAid pot with donations reaching £105.20 which will be added to the overall fund.
