Today marks the launch of the 10th annual National Poop Scoop Week.

Dog’s Trust are once again running the event from 23nd - 28th  June in the hope to crack down on dog litter.

Local authorities up and down the country will be running campaigns to urge dog-owners everywhere to clean up after their pooches. Keep Britain Tidy are urging all dog owners to get behind the campaign and help make 2009 the cleanest summer ever.

Dog fouling costs councils £22 million a year to clean, and remains the countries most complained about issue according to local authorities and MP’s. To find out more about dog fouling click here

Clarissa Baldwin, Chief Executive of  Dogs Trust says,” We believe every dog owner has a responsibility to pick up after their dog. It’s such a shame that a small number of owners put dogs in a bad light, as there are millions of responsible owners and well-behaved dogs out there!

“Through National Poop Scoop Week 2009 we aim to raise awareness of this issue and encourage the minority of irresponsible dog owners to do their duty, making public spaces cleaner and more pleasant for everyone.”

The campaign, now in its tenth year, promotes responsible dog ownership and the message that it is every dog owner’s duty to clean up after their dog.

So grab it, bag it, bin it - Let’s clean up our public spaces for a great summer outdoors!
