Eco-Schools training for schools and local authorities

Keep Britain Tidy's training team and Eco-Schools work closely together to offer a range of training opportunities to benefit participating Eco-Schools and local authorities that want to support Eco-Schools in their area.

Becoming an Eco-School

This course offers an excellent opportunity for newcomers to the Eco-Schools programme to equip themselves with the knowledge and confidence required to introduce it into their schools. Delegates who are already involved in Eco-Schools, but who have not yet applied for a Green Flag Award may benefit from brushing up on existing knowledge and through learning about the assessment.

This course is aimed primarily at teachers, and as such is advertised as a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunity on the Training & Development Agency’s National Database of CPD. In addition, non-teaching staff with an interest or involvement in the Eco-Schools programme will also find this course beneficial.

Going for Green Flag

This new half-day course offers an excellent opportunity for Eco-Schools that have achieved the Silver Award to equip themselves with the knowledge and confidence required to prepare for their first Green Flag application and assessment. Delegates who are experienced in the Eco-Schools programme, but have not yet considered the award scheme may also benefit from learning about award criteria and the Green Flag assessment process.

Engaging Young People in Environmental Projects

This course is aimed primarily at local authority officers, but staff from other organisations with an interest in engaging young people in environmental projects or educating young people about sustainable behaviour will still benefit from attending. Participating Eco-Schools may find it beneficial to learn more about community-based environmental initiatives for tips and hints on involving the wider community in Eco-Schools activities.

What do past attendees think?

Local authority and school staff frequently provide excellent feedback about their training experience:

"Thank you; it was a worthwhile course which left me buzzing and ready to take on the world!"  - Karen Porter, Slough & Eton School

"The course was very informative, useful and inspiring. It made you want to get on and do - which I have! I've got a meeting set up with a couple of other departments to see what we can offer schools."  - Michelle Marley, Waste Education Officer, Central Bedfordshire Council

"Many thanks for the brilliantly delivered training and thank you again for coming. I received a call from another school as a consequence of the training on Friday afternoon - the children want to interview me for a video they are producing and are getting ready for their Green Flag! With thanks again and kind regards."  - Valerie Francis, Strategic Waste Officer, Colchester Borough Council
